Mrs Potts Case Study

External Signage

The Background

Mrs Potts’ Chocolate House is a dessert-based coffee shop, specialising in sweet treats that are guaranteed to ‘bring a smile’ to customers faces. Originating in the Southwest of England, Mrs Potts’ Bath and Bristol shops are big hits amongst chocolate and coffee lovers alike, so much so that the team have expanded, bringing the chain to Wales and opening-up in Cardiff City Centre.

Their St Mary’s Street store opened on Saturday 27th November 2021, but before they could open, they needed to get the store looking as good as their delicious desserts. Bring in the Dragons!

The Process

As always, the Dragon Signs process began with a consultation with Mrs Potts’ Chocolate House to determine their objectives and desires. Once established, we assigned the relevant team to carry out a site audit before designing the signage that would be installed. As this was a branding transformation project, there were a multitude of materials used on signs required for both inside and outside use.

Let’s walk you through the project.

Mrs Potts Chocolate House is in the acquainted Morgan Arcade, off St Mary’s Street in Cardiff. The store needed signs that would elevate the brand and draw customers in, whilst being sympathetic to the surroundings of the arcade.

The full process:

  • The install began with the fitting of Mrs Potts’ logo onto a plaque that is now located above the entrance point in the Arcade
  • Further signs were fitted at all entrance and exit points of the shop
  • Welcome and informational signs was installed throughout the shop (including opening times and toilet locations)
  • The last stage of the install involved spending time carefully and considerably positioning the built-up 3-D letters, reading ‘Chocolate House’ onto the external building, at height, to assist the shop in branding out from the crowd with lettering that can be seen from a far

As this was a full store branding project, the Dragons ensured that they collaborated with the store owners throughout the day, positioning, and repositioning the signage until they reached the perfect ‘that’s it!’ moment.

The Results

Lead by our head fitter, Jon, the process involved a full day of signage installation with a team of Dragons. We believe a picture says a thousand words, so we will let just a few of our finished signs do the talking.

At Dragon Signs, we’re about more than just signs. We treat each installation as a bespoke project, applying as much care and precision to the very first sign install of the day as the last. We’re extremely passionate about helping organisations design their ideal shop, store, restaurant, bar, café, or vehicle using signs that look good and attract customers.
